Terrific News for the Block Island Community today.
Dr. Warcup shared that there has been a terrific seven-day positivity rate for the region, as well as in our state. Rhode Island is down to a 2.7% positivity rate, noting one day last April we were up to a 16.4% positivity rate. Dr. Warcup is grateful for everyones’ efforts who made this possible.
The CDC stated fully vaccinated individuals do not need to quarantine if exposed to an active Covid 19 patient. However, there are some stipulations such as, in addition to a fully vaccinated status, the individual must not exhibit symptoms over the successive days, as well as be within the three months of their last vaccination. Dr. Warcup believes the recommendation will extend beyond the three months, however that is the recommendation to date. The CDC has also stated that double mask-wearing improves protection against coronavirus and variants.
On the Pediatric front, UK researchers have started using the AstraZeneca vaccine on children as low as 6 years of age. Dr. Warcup is hoping to see positive data from this research over the several weeks and months and have a vaccine appropriate for that age group soon.
Unfortunately, Rhode Island is third in the nation for Covid Cases per capita. RI is the 47th state in regards to vaccine distribution for those vaccines that have been received by the federal government.
Dr. Warcup shares that we here on Block Island, have a lot to be thrilled about. The partnership between our EMA Directors, the Town Council, and the Block Island Health Services team has been terrific. Relaying information with the Department of Health, communicating, and advocating with Representative Filippi and Senator Sosnowski has resulted in the DOH increasing our allocation of the Moderna vaccine for the island.
Dr. Warcup is happy to announce the EMA and Block Island Medical Center will be having a joint Moderna Covid 19 vaccination clinic at the Legion Park region. The clinic will be similar to the clinic that was held on January 30th. Year-round Block Island residents, that are 75 years of age and older have been personally contacted and given a time slot.
Dr. Warcup is thrilled about the partnership of the EMA directors, the town council, and Block Island Health Services, calling it a win for our community. A list is being cultivated of individuals slightly younger than 75, in case there is extra vaccine. This list is also being organized by the EMA Directors, gathering the names and the numbers of individuals who may be in that particular cohort.

El Dr. Warcup compartió que ha habido una excelente tasa de positividad de siete días para la región, así como en nuestro estado. El Dr. Warcup está agradecido por los esfuerzos de todos los que hicieron esto posible.
CDC declararon que las personas completamente vacunadas no necesitan ponerse en cuarentena si se exponen a un paciente activo de Covid 19. Sin embargo, existen algunas estipulaciones como que, además de estar completamente vacunado, el individuo no debe presentar síntomas durante los días sucesivos, así como estar dentro de los tres meses de su última vacunación. El Dr. Warcup cree que la recomendación se extenderá más allá de los tres meses, sin embargo, esa es la recomendación hasta la fecha. El CDC también ha declarado que el uso de una máscara doble mejora la protección contra el coronavirus y sus variantes.
En el ámbito pediátrico, los investigadores del UK han comenzado a utilizar la vacuna AstraZeneca en niños de tan solo 6 años de edad. El Dr. Warcup espera ver datos positivos de esta investigación durante varias semanas y meses y tener pronto una vacuna apropiada para ese grupo de edad.
Desafortunadamente, Rhode Island ocupa el tercer lugar del país en cuanto a casos de Covid per cápita. Rhode Island es el estado número 47 en cuanto a distribución de vacunas para aquellas vacunas que han sido recibidas por el gobierno federal.
Dr. Warcup comparte que aquí en Block Island tenemos mucho de qué emocionarnos. La asociación entre nuestros Directores de EMA, el Ayuntamiento y el equipo de Servicios de Salud de Block Island ha sido excelente. La transmisión de información al Departamento de Salud, la comunicación y la promoción con el Representante Filippi y el Senador Sosnowski ha dado como resultado que el DOH aumente nuestra asignación de la vacuna Moderna para la isla.
Dr. Warcup se complace en anunciar que la EMA y el Block Island Medical Center tendrán una clínica de vacunación conjunta Moderna Covid 19 en la región de Legion Park.
