Elizabeth Dyer, R.NP.

Elizabeth Dyer, R.NP.

After receiving a B.S. in Nursing from the University of Rhode Island, Elizabeth went on to complete a Master of Science degree, also from the University of Rhode Island, graduating as a Family Practice Nurse Practitioner in 1999.

Elizabeth’s extensive clinical background includes 16 years of experience  as a staff nurse in both Medical Surgical and Intensive Care Units at Roger Williams Hospital in Providence and South County Hospital in Wakefield RI during which time she was directly involved in the medical care of high acuity and critically ill patients.   In addition to her clinical role she developed management, teaching, and leadership skills serving as the Clinical Nurse Manager of  Critical Care for four years and for nearly two years as Senior Nursing Management of Critical Care with oversight of multiple units and reporting directly to the Vice President of Nursing at Roger Williams Medical Center.   She also served as the North East Director of the New England Organ Bank in 1999.

Prior to joining the Medical Team at BIHS, Elizabeth was employed as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Kent Hospital—a busy community hospital where  her practice entailed evaluating the full spectrum of emergent and urgent presentations, and caring for patients of all ages.  During that time she was active on the Kent Hospital Ethics Committee and Credentialing Committee and was recognized as the Kent Hospital Employee of the Year in 2009.  She gained specialty expertise in the care of renal patients through her work with a Medical-Renal private practice—in which her roles  and responsibilities were fundamentally the same as those of the attending physicians in the group.

Elizabeth has served as an educator and preceptor for Advanced Nurse Practitioner students, medical students and resident physicians from the University of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College,  The Massachusetts General and Kent Hospitals.  She has been regionally active on the Rhode Island Ethics Network.  Her professional interests include Hypertension, Nephrology and Critical Care.
