The Block Island Health Center aims to promote the health, well-being, and safety of the Block Island community through high-quality and culturally competent health care consultation and serves as a source of public health information and education across the island. Our vision is to be the island community's preferred comprehensive healthcare provider.

The Block Island Health Center has cared for island residents and visitors with compassion and integrity since 1989. BIHC is a primary care practice, providing community health care and handling urgent and emergent needs. We extend and integrate care through our in-house providers, partnerships with visiting specialists, and through a mainland referral network.

Fresh off a historical renovation and campus expansion, our facility offers a new reception area and provider offices, four primary care rooms, a new dedicated urgent care wing with 2 private rooms and a care team station, full-service dental facilities, fully-renovated administrative offices, a fully-renovated basement complete with dedicated physical therapy spaces and ancillary services rooms, and elevator access to all three floors.

Rural Health Elective

Graduate and Post-Graduate Medical rotations are available at the Block Island Health Center.

Primary, urgent and emergent care services are provided to patients of all ages.  BIHC facilitates emergency air and marine transport of emergent patients to mainland receiving facilities.  The Block Island Volunteer Rescue Squad, Interstate Navigation, The US Coast Guard, New England Airlines, and the regional helicopter and ambulance services are all important partners who take part in the transport of our critical patients.

The Health Center is a teaching site of Brown University Warren Alpert School of Medicine, frequently hosting visiting medical students, resident physicians, nurse practitioner students, and physician assistant students.  These visiting practitioners take part in the care of patients under direct supervision of our providers.

Block Island Health Services, Inc. and the Block Island Health Center is a non-profit 501(c)3 tax exempt organization.
