Block Island Health Services (BIHS)
Location: Block Island, RI
Position Type: Part‑time
Reports To: CMO
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in delivering high‑quality, patient‑centered care in our Rural Health Clinic. Working as part of a small, collaborative team, the RN provides direct clinical care, supports providers, coordinates patient services, and helps ensure compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards. This position is grant funded.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care, including patient assessment, triage, and clinical support for medical visits
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments per provider orders and BIHS protocols
- Prepare patients for exams and assist providers during clinical encounters
- Perform care coordination, including referrals, follow‑up, and patient education
- Document all care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Participate in infection control, quality improvement, and patient safety activities
- Support emergency response procedures and after‑hours protocols as applicable
- Assist with inventory management of medical supplies and vaccines
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary staff to support continuity of care
- Maintain compliance with Rural Health Clinic (RHC), HIPAA, and accreditation requirements
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and required continuing education
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Rhode Island
- Minimum of [1–2] years of nursing experience (primary care, ambulatory care, or public health preferred)
- Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently in a rural setting
- Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (or ability to learn quickly)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in primary care, rural health, or community health settings
- Experience with population health, care management, or public health nursing
- Familiarity with RHC or federally regulated healthcare environments
- Bi-lingual (Spanish preferred)
- Ability to cross‑train and support multiple clinic functions in a small team environment

Position Summary
The Medical Assistant (MA) supports clinical operations at Block Island Health Services’ Rural Health Clinic by providing direct patient care assistance and administrative support. Working in a small, highly collaborative healthcare setting, the MA plays a key role in ensuring efficient clinic flow, excellent patient experience, and compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards. This is a grant‑funded position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for medical visits, including taking vital signs and documenting chief complaints
- Assist providers and nursing staff during clinical exams and procedures
- Administer injections, perform point‑of‑care testing, and draw blood, as delegated and within scope
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Support patient care coordination, referrals, and follow‑up communication
- Perform front‑office and clinical support tasks as needed to support clinic operations
- Maintain exam rooms, equipment, and medical supplies
- Follow infection control, safety, and HIPAA guidelines at all times
- Participate in quality improvement, training, and required staff meetings
- Support emergency response protocols as required
Required Qualifications
- Medical Assistant certification or relevant clinical experience
- Experience in a healthcare or ambulatory care setting preferred
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a rural clinic environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn EMR systems

Position Summary
The Program Coordinator is a grant‑funded position responsible for supporting the implementation and ongoing management of a federally funded grant program. This role ensures accurate documentation, timely reporting, and effective coordination among internal and external stakeholders to maintain compliance with grant requirements and advance program goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate day‑to‑day implementation of federally funded grant activities, ensuring alignment with approved work plans and timelines
- Prepare, track, and submit required monthly grant reports accurately and on time
- Maintain complete, accurate, and compliant program documentation, including data tracking and supporting records
- Assist in the development of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and related procurement documentation, in accordance with federal and organizational policies
- Work closely with CPA, and program staff to ensure consistency between program activities, budgets, and reporting
- Liaise with key internal and external stakeholders, including funders, partners, and vendors, to support successful program execution
- Monitor deliverables and milestones, identifying risks or discrepancies and escalating issues as appropriate
- Support audits, monitoring visits, and other compliance reviews related to grant funding
Qualifications (optional to include or adjust)
- Experience in program management, preferably within federally funded or publicly funded initiatives
- Experience working with federally funded grants or public funding preferred
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Excellent organizational, written, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and collaborate across departments

Full-Time | Grant-Funded Position
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Position Summary
The Executive Assistant / Front Office Supervisor provides high-level administrative support to the CEO while overseeing daily front office operations, communications, and select marketing and web-related functions. This role supports executive leadership, patient-facing workflows, and organizational visibility, while also assisting the Board of Directors with fundraising-related coordination and materials.
This is a grant-funded, full-time position.
Essential Responsibilities (Required)
Executive & Leadership Support
- Provide direct administrative support to the CEO, including calendar management, meeting coordination, correspondence, and document preparation
- Assist with Board of Directors support, including meeting logistics, materials preparation, and fundraising-related coordination
- Support development and preparation of fundraising materials, donor communications, and board support documents
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all executive and board-related matters
- Assist with special projects, reports, and organizational initiatives as assigned by the CEO
Front Office Supervision
- Supervise front office staff and daily receptionist operations
- Ensure smooth patient flow, high-quality customer service, and adherence to organizational policies
- Serve as a frontline problem-solver for front office workflows and patient-facing issues
- Assist with staff scheduling, coverage coordination, and onboarding support
- Coordinate front desk procedures with clinical and administrative teams
Web, Marketing & Communications Support
- Support website content management, updates, and coordination with vendors as needed
- Create marketing and outreach materials, including flyers, announcements, and public-facing content
- Support organizational visibility through coordination of job postings, community announcements, and promotional materials
Administrative & Operational Support
- Support general office operations, including phones, mail, office systems, and supply management
- Assist with internal and external communications
- Support compliance with organizational policies, privacy standards, and grant requirements
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information with discretion
- Experience supervising staff or managing front office/administrative operations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new systems
- Self-starter with strong attention to detail and follow-through
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience providing executive-level administrative support
- Experience supporting boards, fundraising activities, or donor communications
- Experience with website content management or marketing materials
- Experience in healthcare, nonprofit, or public-facing service environments
- Bilingual skills preferred
