The Block Island Health Center is excited to welcome Dr. Robert Gianfrocco as our remote Chief Medical Officer.
Dr. Gianfrocco is a lifelong Rhode Islander who is eager to become part of the excellent team of clinicians dedicated to the health of Block Islanders.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from URI, he received his medical degree with honors from Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Massachusetts. Following his training, he spent 15 years in Emergency Medicine before joining South County Health.
He is currently the Medical Director of three busy urgent care clinics in Westerly, East Greenwich, and Warwick. He is also involved in optimizing operations and new provider education within South County Hospital’s growing primary care unit.
Outside of work, he most enjoys spending time with his family, hiking in the White Mountains, playing tennis and trivia with friends, gardening, and building stone walls.
Dr. Gianfrocco is replacing Dr. Tom Warcup who remained as our interim remote CMO after his departure in March. The BIHC board thanks Dr. Warcup for his dedication to our community. Through the depths of the COVID pandemic, the 'normal' seasonal swings of Block Island life, the necessary disruptions of the facility renovation and expansion, his was a steady hand as the Health Center continued to evolve. The Board wishes him and Stephanie all the best.
As the Health Center continues to evolve and expand services to our community, we remain committed to our long-term plan of having a full-time physician on the island.
