Peter Jokl, M.D.

Dr. Jokl is an orthopedic surgeon and Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine. He earned is B.A. and M.D. from Yale in 1964 and 1968.  He completed his surgical Internship at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine 1969 and went on to complete his orthopedic residency at Yale in 1972.  He served as the Former Department Vice Chairman and Residency Training Program Director.  Dr. Jokl subspecializes in Sports Medicine.  For the last 30 years, he and his wife Linda have spent much of their free time at their Block Island home.  He has enjoyed a wonderful relationship with the Block Island Medical Center over the many years in both teaching medical students and supporting the medical staff.  He is delighted and honored to serve on the advisory board for the BI Health Service

Dr. Al Puerini is a native Rhode Islander who was in private practice since 1983 and was the senior member of Family Health and Sports Medicine, LLC, in Cranston, RI, until his retirement from private practice in June 2017.  He has been the Head Team Physician for Providence College Athletics since 1988.  He is the President and CEO of RI Primary Care Physician Corporation (RIPCPC), composed of 160 primary care physicians and over 300 specialists and behavioral health providers since 1995.

He is the Chairman of the Board of Integra Community Care Network, an Accountable Care Organization composed of all CNE hospitals, South County Health and RIPCPC. Their goal is to better coordinate care throughout the health care system while reimbursing health providers for the quality of their care rather than the volume of care.  

Dr. Puerini has served on the Governors Healthcare Reform Commission and the Governor’s Health Care Leadership Group and he serves on the Boards of the RI Quality Institute and the Hospital Association of RI.  He has been a Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Sports Medicine at the Warren Alpert Brown Medical School since 1990 and is a founder and faculty member of the Brown Sports Medicine Fellowship.

Dr. Puerini has been the recipient of numerous awards including:  The Benjamin Sturgess Distinguished Service Award which honors dedicated service to healthcare in RI.in 2014; Outstanding Achievement Award in Sports Medicine by the RI Interscholastic League 2015; National Philanthropy Award by the RI Free Clinic 2009; Elected “Top Doc” by the RI Monthly Magazine in 2000 & 2011; Physician of the Year by the RI Academy of Family Physicians in 2017.

He has served on Block Island’s Physician Advisory Committee since 2012
