Raymond “Ray” Torrey, Chair, Property Management Committee
Ray is a former pilot in the US Marines and a former commercial airline pilot. His retirement on Block Island has involved extensive contributions as a leader and volunteer. He served on the Block Island Rescue Squad for ten years and gave six years to the Town Council, holding the office of Second Warden. Ray served on the Land Trust for six years and the Block Island Conservancy board for four. He still spends Wednesdays working with the trail maintenance crew to keep our hiking trails clear. He is a charter member of the Lions Club and remains active there. He currently serves on the Block Island Residents Association, is active in the Post 36, American Legion, and is Vice Commodore of the Block Island Yacht Club. Ray believes that “the present economic realities of keeping the Medical Center viable and operating in the black present a unique challenge.” He would like to be a part of the solution. Ray joined the board in 2015 and currently chairs the Building and Grounds Committee. Ray and his wife Susan have five children, and nine grandchildren. Ray’s pastimes are sailing and walking his dog on the beach.
